Alaska’s 40,544 miles of coastline represents 40% of the US total and provides endless recreational fishing opportunities in both fresh and marine waters.
The Ketchikan area offers year-round sport fishing opportunities with productive marine waters that support five species of salmon, halibut, lingcod, rockfish, Dungeness crab and shrimp. The freshwater streams and lakes throughout the area support wild trout populations including steelhead, rainbow, cutthroat and Dolly Varden. There are numerous remote fishing opportunities throughout the Ketchikan area, including seven trophy cutthroat trout lakes; the Ketchikan road system provides access to a variety of freshwater and saltwater shoreline sport fishing locations. If you have a little time, here’s a great video series on fishing in Ketchikan called A Fish Story.
If you’re staying with us at Viewtopia Vacation Rentals, there are several fishing charter resources we can recommend. A very convenient and expert option is Baranof Fishing Excursions, which is only an 8-minute walk from us!
